Tacos, Nachos and Cheesecake, oh my!

This weekend was a pretty good one. Not only did I get all of the laundry caught up and all of the dishes too but I also cleaned most of the house, put up a Christmas tree, wrapped gifts and made some cookies. And, if that wasn't enough, I also won some free stuff in a couple giveaways.

Both of the wins came on Friday but I won a $10 gift card with two coupons for free Old El Paso products from Mom of 2 Boys, Wife of 1 and, from The Cheesecake Factory, a $25 Cheesecake Factory gift card with a "Slice of Joy" card for a free slice of cheesecake!

Needless to say, I was quite happy! The Cheesecake Factory Twitter giveaway lasts until December 28 so you can still enter by retweeting their daily message, which you can find in their Twitter feed. Good luck if you enter!

Again with the free salsa!

I absolutely love the Pace Hand-Pick & Win game because I won another $4.00 off salsa this morning! I just used the coupon I won in November over the weekend on one of the giant plastic containers of salsa plus I'm waiting for the coupon I won last week and now I'll get another one for winning today!

Really, if you haven't been playing this instant win game you should probably start. It takes just 30 seconds out of your day and the odds to win salsa seem pretty good to me!

I won again! Thanks Toys-R-Us!!

Hot off the heels of my free jar of salsa win I found another sweepstakes to enter on Sweetie's Sweeps, the Toys-R-Us Hot Holiday Giveaway, and after registering on the site was an instant winner on my first game play! This morning I won a Step2 Push Around Buggy!

While I would have loved to win a Nintendo DS the buggy will be great because, if it arrives before Christmas, I can wrap it up and give it to my niece!

So, two wins in two days. :D Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!!

Won a free jar of Pace salsa!

Pace is currently running the second version of their Hand-Pick and Win instant win game which is a pretty easy way to score some free salsa. I had won a couple times during the first iteration of the game earlier in the year and have now won twice in the current round as well!

Unlike the first round, Pace now has you fill out and submit a form and will mail your single coupon to you. I loved the first version because you got your prize instantly in the form of a SmartSource (I think) printable coupon that actually allowed you to print it 10 times!! That was so sweet. $40 in free salsa... Oh well, I guess they learned that it wasn't the best idea so now you get a single coupon in the mail. But, hey, free is free so go and try your luck at http://www.pacefoods.com/hand-pick-win.aspx.

Good luck!

Stefanie Spielman 1967-2009

Stefanie Spielman, breast cancer survivor and fighter for more than 10 years, passed away yesterday evening at her home in Upper Arlington, Ohio.

It is impossible to live in Columbus or central Ohio and not know who Stefanie is or know of someone who has been touched in some way by her story. She and her husband, Chris Spielman, did so much good for the community, the state and the nation. Through the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research and The Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund will continue to provide assistance and hope to those affected by breast cancer.

My thoughts and prayers go out the Spielman family and anyone who has ever been touched by the wonderful things that Stefanie, Chris and their family have done over the years. As someone whose family has also been affected by cancer I'm deeply saddened at Stefanie's passing but know that she will live on in the hearts of the millions that she has impacted.

Public calling hours will be this Monday, November 23 from 1:00pm - 8:00pm at the Longaberger Alumni House on the OSU campus. I will definitely visit and urge anyone else who is able to do so too.

The Indecision of Brett Favre

Does anyone really care about Brett Favre anymore?
Retired. Not retired. Retired. Not Retired...
DO.
NOT.
CARE.

And, if he really is just coming back (again) because he loves the game, why the need for a two year $25million contract? And, with the Vikings...who play the Packers twice this year...
But, he's back in the spotlight, getting all the attention so we'll just have to see what happens.

Sweetie's Secret Sweeps Website

I love entering sweepstakes and contests and have won a little bit over the past 7 months too. No grand vacations, cars or TVs yet but I have won grocery gift cards, Visa and Mastercard gift cards and various other things and I'm looking forward to winning more. My favorite website for finding out about sweepstakes and giveaways has been Sweetie's Sweeps, which is run by a long time sweeper, Wendy Limauge, who has won so many awesome prizes including TVs, computers, many gift cards (including a $5000 Visa card in a Burger King promotion this year!) a new truck and even a trip to France. She has a wealth of information to share and now she has started a brand new website devoted to giving its members the best information on restricted and local sweepstakes/giveaways with the best chances of winning, Sweetie's Secret Sweeps.

Because it is a members only site and the sweepstakes information is so valuable there is a low cost to join of $25 for the first 500 charter members and $35 for members 501+. However, if you feel lucky (as I do) you can enter her membership giveaway to win your own free membership! All you have to do is go to this page on her free site: http://sweetiessweeps.com/2009/07/sweeties-secret-sweeps-giveaway-ends.html and enter your name and e-mail address into the Google Docs form. If you aren't lucky enough to win or you want to join before the giveaway ends you can certainly just go to http://sweetiessecretsweeps.com/and sign up there. If you do, be sure to give my e-mail address as the person who referred you, if you don't mind.

So, please accept some of my luck and head on over to enter the membership giveaway and, who knows, you may be on your way to winning some of your heart's desires.

I do so love Maine.

We returned from our week long trip to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine on Sunday and I am reminded again why I love Maine and the northeastern coast so much. Even though it was rainy/hazy for just about every day we were there, it was still beautiful and very relaxing. I loved the cabin that we stayed at, Alcyon Rentals. It is a privately owned, 3 bedroom cabin with a full bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room and the property sits on 6 acres of land right on Seal Cove. There is a gazebo overlooking the cove along with kayaks and canoes. We had a great time kayaking and just enjoying our time there. Enough words, though. Here's a few photos of what we did and what we saw.

We stopped at Hampton Beach on the way up from Boston to check out the annual sandcastle building contest. A guy from Cleveland won. Go Ohio!

We saw a lot of this with all of the haze, rain and clods but it's still very cool.

The famous Jordan Pond House popovers and a cup of soup. Very good.

More scenic views and more fog.

What's new?

It's been a little while since I've posted anything here so here's the 60 second update:

I got offered a new position at OSU which was subsequently rescinded after I had turned in my letter of resignation. My then current office got my soon to be vacant position re-posted to hire someone new (in amazing record time, mind you) so when I asked about withdrawing my resignation because the job was no longer there they said the refused my withdrawal because they've already "...taken affirmative steps to fill the vacancy...". So, now I no longer have a job since I "willingly" resigned. As if that's not bad enough, one of our cats fell off the balcony last week and tore a muscle in her hind leg which should be surgically repaired. A surgery that will cost $500 at our vet's office. That's better than the $1400+ at the emergency clinic but without a job, it's understandably difficult to quickly come up with the cash. Of course, this is in addition to the $200 visit to get Lily looked at and x-rays taken...

I'm ready for some good news to come my way. Please?

It's April, fools!!

Happy April Fools Day! I know it's not an official holiday but it is a fun day nonetheless.

In addition to really welcoming spring, this April is also significant for me because there will be some new and exciting things happening with my Divisible by 1 Tees site (and with other things). The fun is going to start on the the first Tuesday of April (April 7th) which is less than a week away!

Of course, if you want to be kept fully up to date with what's going on, the best way is to sign up for the Divisible by 1 Tees e-mail updates. Just head over to the Db1 Blog, click on the button at the top of the page and you're all set.

'Till then, stay tuned!

Megan Joy Corkrey had better go home!

I've only been watching American Idol for 3 seasons (or is it 4 now?) but I have really grown to dislike the Vote for the Worst website. In the past, I'm sure they've helped less talented contestants stick around longer than they should have and this season is no exception.

Megan.

Joy.

Corkrey.

Sucks.
Period.

It is, literally, painful to listen to her wail through songs every week. And that arm/waist "shimmy" thing that she apparently has no control over doing? Holy crap! It's painful to watch her too!

Please, please, please let her get voted off tonight!!!

Divisible by 1 Tees is live!

I may have missed my target by one week but I'm glad to say I have finally made Divisible by 1 Tees live. Of course, being live just means that the work is only beginning since I have to keep putting out new t-shirt designs. Luckily, I still have some old CEGPhoto designs to update and migrate into the Db1 shop as well as a truckload of new designs in progress and on paper.
You may be asking yourself "How will I, as a reader, be able to keep up with all of the updates and new designs?". Well, you can visit and subscribe to the new Divisible by 1 Tees Blog! How convenient is that? The blog will be updated to let the world know about new designs in the shop, designs I'm working on, sales and promotions and I will finally get to host some giveaways so you'll want to keep an eye out for those.
These first few weeks will probably see a large number of new designs added so, if you are so inclined, you could subscribe to either the Divisible by 1 Tees RSS feed or e-mail from the blog and ensure that you don't miss a thing. I hope you enjoy the shop and the blog and stick around for lots more good stuff and fun in the future.
Thanks!

Won My First Blog Giveaway!

What a great day! I was checking my e-mail this morning at work and saw a message with the subject "You've won on Mom Knows It All" and my heart skipped a beat (figuratively, of course, unless I have an undiagnosed heart murmur or something).
I won a giveaway for $50 worth of patterns and things from YouCanMakeThis.com. The website is really pretty nice and it is built on a great idea. If you are a crafty person or would like to be a crafty person you should find something that you like. The site founders believe that, essentially, anyone can make anything on the site. You can buy and download instructions, material lists and patterns for various craft things and then, as the site name says, you can make it. I am looking forward to getting the prize bundle because there are a few items I want to make for the nieces and nephew.
Many thanks to Valerie at Mom Knows It All and to YouCanMakeThis.com for finally making me a blog giveaway winner! Hopefully, there will many more to follow!

Win a trip to ride SeaWorld's newest coaster, Manta!

I've only been to Florida once, a couple years ago, for a family vacation to Walt Disney World. Everyone loved it and I would really like to go back within the next couple years. One thing we thought about doing, but did not, was to check out SeaWorld. There seems to be a lot to do there, from riding the roller coasters and other rides to watching animal shows to checking out all of the awesome animal exhibits. When we next go to Florida I definitely want to spend a couple days at SeaWorld and one new reason to do that is the Manta. SeaWorld's newest roller coaster, set to open May 22, 2009, looks to be one of the coolest coasters around. Check out SeaWorld's Manta page with a video teaser of what you can expect. I can't wait to see it and, hopefully, I will win my trip there courtesy of Ted Murphy, IZEA and SeaWorld.

State of the Blog(s) Address

13 years ago, I created my first website. I had been designing my own desktop wallpapers for subjects I liked and thought other people might enjoy them too. So I created Courtenay's Desktop Creations in the College Park section of Geocities. Fast forward to 2009. My wallpaper site actually still exists on Tripod (http://courtenay27.tripod.com), although I've not touched it in at least 6 years (I'll need to do something about that finally). More importantly, though, I've got a handful of websites and ideas that I've created and worked on over the years but that never realized their true potential. I'm ready to change that.
So, without further ado, I present my action plan for 2009:

1. Divisible By 1 @ Cafe Press (http://www.divisibleby1.com)
When I created CEGPhoto.com I used Cafe Press as a major outlet for selling products with my photos on them because I figured people would be more likely to buy calendars and things rather than just buying photo prints. In addition to my photo products, though, I continued to create non-photo designs and just put them into the CEGPhoto shop so that it was easy to keep track of things. For brand identity, it really wasn't the best way to go and I had wanted to separate them for a long time. So, last February I bought www.divisibleby1.com and now will finally be opening the site which will contain various non-photographic designs on t-shirts, sweatshirts, coffee mugs, buttons, magnets, stickers and anything else that CP sells.
I'm actually in the final stages of prepping the shop by finishing up some graphic work and importing products so I'm expecting to launch it before the end of this month (February). Of course, I'll make a post here once that happens and maybe even run a giveaway because I've wanted to do that for so long.

2. CEGPhoto (http://www.cegphoto.com/)
As my little profile says I consider myself to be somewhat of an amateur photographer. I've loved shooting digital photography since about 2001 and have shot many thousands of photos to date. Over the years, I'd shown some people my work and had been told it was good so I finally decided to enter one photo into a competition. I entered it into the Ohio State University Faculty/Staff Arts & Crafts exhibition and to my surprise won the President's Choice award that year. I knew that I did shoot some good photographs but until that point I'd never thought much about it. After that, however, more people became interested so I decided to create a website. With my entrepreneurial mind I wanted to do more than showcase my photos so I made desktop wallpapers of some photos, put products on Cafe Press and more. Over time I think the site became much more than I originally intended it to be but not in a good way.
So, my plan is to do a total redesign and repurposing of cegphoto.com, basically stripping it down to the essence of what a photographer's website should be: a showcase of my photos. I love some of my photo products, especially my calendars, and will keep the CEGPhoto Cafe Press shop running but everything will be redesigned and will look much more professional. I'm planning to start this project later in the year (probably 3rd or 4th quarter) but hope to have it all completed by the holiday season.

3. I'd Like To Go.com (http://www.idliketogo.com/)
This is the one project that I am definitely most excited about. I first created idliketogo.com in the beginning of 2005 because I had the idea of chronicling my trips and travels, both near and far, on the web. I wanted to do travel reviews of places I'd visited, where I stayed and things I'd done while I was there. The first piece of content was a review/journal of my trip to NYC in February 2005 to see Jean-Claude and Christo's Gates installment in Central Park. To date, I still think the overall idea and design of idliketogo.com is among the best of my early site designs and has the most potential to be the site that I spend most of my time with.
My plan is to get started on the redesign and content creation in February or March. I've actually got more trip reviews/journals than the one that I posted to the site but due to a number of things happening in my life when I was "into" the site, I never posted anything past the NYC Gates trip. Add to that at least 5 or 6 major trips taken in the past 2-3 years and lots of little in-state trips and I've got a lot of writing to do to get my pillars started. I want to keep the feel of the site similar to what it is now but give it a major update with design, content, a new blog, a new type of gallery and some new features. Like I said, this is going to be my main "baby" this year and I'm guessing I will probably be working on the new site through April. I'd actually like to finish it by mid-April because I have a grand plan that would be awesome to implement at that time but we'll see what I can do. Once I'd Like To Go.com re-opens I will definitely have some kind of giveaway to celebrate it.

4. Divisible by 1 Designs (http://www.db1designs.com/)
Divisible by 1 Designs is really just going to be used as a showcase of my website designs and will link to all of my sites. Eventually, once I'm done with my own sites and I've gotten them all under control, I may consider hiring myself out for web design services and this is where that venture will be located.

There it is. If anyone actually read all of that, congratulations and I thank you. These are the main things I'll be working on for most of this year. I do still have a couple more ideas on the back burner and a couple more sites to come in the future but we'll cross that bridge once I've finished the above projects. As I said, I will keep track of all of my progress here in this blog and let everyone know when each site (re)launches. I welcome any comments that yo may have and may even solicit them through various parts of the design process. So, until next time, I'll just be here at my computer plugging away.

State of the Blog Primer

Its 2009.

The new year is in full swing and resolutions are being made and broken. I'm not really big on the "R" word myself, but I have set a few goals that I want to come to fruition this year. There's the usual suspects: get back into shape (Wii Fit tells me I'm obese), get a little bit more out of debt, etc., etc.. Things I work on to varying degrees anyway but always strive to improve. Then there's the grand business/web related goals, which I intend to fullfill and, eventually, thrive at.

I've got a few websites that I've developed, worked on and kept updated in differing amounts over the years and now, thanks to some recent inspirational reading and research, I have become more motivated about my sites and their potential than I have in a long time.

So, in an effort to keep myself honest and on task, in my next post I'm going to outline my plans and goals for each of my current sites and throw in time lines as well (because I know that all 10 of my occasional readers are soo interested) so that I can keep everyone updated with my progress.

I'm looking forward to getting all of this written down and started so that my current readers and the hundreds, nay, thousands of future readers that I will pick up through this blog and my other sites will feel that they are investing their online time reading and following something worthwhile So, stay tuned and be on the lookout for my next post...coming very soon

I Won a $20 Meijer Gift Card!!

Meijer had a Wish List sweepstakes from their website during the holidays and since I am now very into entering sweepstakes I was entering every day (just about).  Well, I opened up the mailbox this afternoon and saw an envelope from Meijer Sweepstakes inside!  Excited, I felt the envelope and felt a gift card inside.  After getting inside I opened it and I had won a $20 gift card!  It was a fifth place prize but, hey, $20 is $20.  And, I won it!  Awesome.
This is going to be a good year.  I wonder if I will be lucky enough to win something like a car!  :D
I can dream, cant I?

Thanks Meijer!

Snow Day!!

I don't have to go to work today!!
Thanks to the snow/freezing rain/crap storm that came into Ohio yesterday, and is still happening now, Ohio State canceled classes and since I'm not an "essential" staff member I don't have to go in!  Of course, my girlfriend is an "essential" staff person so since we're not under a level 3 emergency she still had to go in. That sucks.
It was so fun getting the 1/2" layer of ice off our cars this morning too.  At least we still have power as no utility lines have been compromised in our area.

So, today I'm going to try to hammer out a lot of website work so I can make headway on a couple projects and enter a lot of giveaways as well!  What?  You didn't know there is a Giveaway Carnival going on?  Well, why not check it out?

So, during the holiday season I entered a contest that was sponsored by a number of blogs to give away some Dirt Devil Kwiks and when we got back home from out of town new year I had a package on my doorstep.  I had no idea what it was because it was from some fulfillment center but when I opened it I had a brand new Dirt Devil Kwik!  Very cool.  I don't know how much I will actually use it but it's kind of nice to have.  It's sitting next to the monitor of our desktop and plugged into the USB port so that's very convenient.  I love winning things!
